HEIC to JPG/PNG Converter
You take a photo on an iPhone, try to upload it to a website or attach it to an email on a Windows PC, and it either fails silently or shows up as a blank file. The photo is almost always saved as HEIC (or HEIF) — a format iPhones have used by default since iOS 11 — and a lot of software still doesn't know what to do with it.
Why HEIC causes problems
HEIC compresses photos to roughly half the file size of an equivalent JPG at the same quality, which is why Apple made it the default — it saves storage and upload bandwidth. The trade-off is compatibility: it's a newer format, and older browsers, most Windows photo viewers without a codec pack, many CMS uploaders, and plenty of client-side web forms simply reject it or fail to preview it.
Three ways to convert HEIC to JPG
- On the iPhone itself — Settings → Camera → Formats → switch from "High Efficiency" to "Most Compatible," which saves new photos as JPG going forward. This doesn't fix photos you've already taken.
- Change it at share time — Settings → Photos → scroll to "Transfer to Mac or PC" → set to "Automatic," which converts HEIC to JPG only when you transfer files off the device, leaving the originals untouched.
- Convert existing files directly — for photos you already have, batch-converting them to JPG or PNG is faster than changing a setting and re-taking the photo.
What you lose (and don't) converting to JPG
JPG is a lossy format like HEIC, so there's a small additional compression pass, but at high quality settings the difference isn't visible to the eye. What you gain is a file every website, app, and photo viewer built in the last 20 years can open without a plugin.
Converting without installing anything
Our HEIC to JPG/PNG Converter runs the conversion in your browser — drop in one or several HEIC files and get back standard JPG or PNG files, no app install and nothing uploaded to a server to wait on.
