Passport Photo Maker

Crop any photo to the exact size a passport, visa, or ID application needs, and lighten a plain background toward white. Pick a country preset, drag to frame your face, and download - your photo is processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

No photo selected. You can also drag and drop here.

Requirements change from time to time - double-check the current size against the official government or embassy page before you submit.

Lightens a plain, mostly-uniform background toward white. It samples the corners of your photo, so it works best when the background is already plain - it can't cut out a subject from a busy scene.

Drag the photo and use the zoom slider until your head and shoulders sit centered in the frame.

  4. 4

    Whiten the background (optional)

Leave the toggle on to lighten a plain background toward white, and adjust the strength slider to taste.

  5. 5

    Generate and download

Click "Generate photo", then download the single photo or a 4x6 inch print sheet with multiple copies.

Example use cases

1

Passport applications

Crop a photo to your country's exact passport photo size before printing or uploading it with your application.

2

Visa applications

Many visa applications need a different size than a passport - pick the matching preset for the country you're applying to.

3

ID and permit photos

Use the custom size option for driving licences, work permits, and other ID photos with their own pixel requirements.

4

Printing at a photo kiosk

Download the 4x6 inch print sheet so a photo lab or kiosk can print several copies from a single 4x6 print.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The crop, resize, and background whitening all run in your browser using the Canvas API - the photo file itself is never sent to a server.

Will these exact pixel sizes be accepted?

The presets follow the size and DPI commonly published by each country's passport or visa authority, but requirements do change and vary by application type. Confirm the current spec on the official government or embassy site before you submit your photo.

How does the background whitening work?

It samples the color in the corners of your framed photo and gently blends any similarly-colored background pixels toward white. It's a good fit for a photo taken against a plain wall or sheet, but it doesn't remove a subject from a busy or patterned background - for that, retake the photo against a plain backdrop first.

What if my country isn't in the preset list?

Choose "Custom size (pixels)" and enter the exact width and height your application needs - most passport and visa authorities publish this in millimetres or inches, which you can convert to pixels at 300 DPI (mm ÷ 25.4 × 300).

Can I print multiple copies on one photo sheet?

Yes - after generating your photo, use "Download 4x6 in print sheet" to get a single 4x6 inch, 300 DPI sheet tiled with as many copies as fit, ready to print at a photo kiosk or lab.
