Frequently asked questions
How is the NPS corpus calculated?
The corpus is projected using a standard SIP-style compounding formula on your monthly contribution, expected annual return, and the number of months left until retirement.
Why is 40% the minimum annuity purchase?
Under NPS rules, at least 40% of the accumulated corpus must be used to buy an annuity that pays a regular pension; the remaining portion (up to 60%) can be withdrawn as a lump sum, currently tax-free.
How is the monthly pension estimated?
Monthly pension ≈ (corpus used to buy the annuity × annuity rate ÷ 100) ÷ 12. The actual rate depends on the annuity plan and provider you choose at retirement.
Does this account for NPS fund management charges?
No, this is a simplified projection on the return rate you enter. Actual returns will be affected by fund performance, asset allocation, and fund management charges.
Is my contribution data sent to a server?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted or logged.
