Frequently asked questions

How is profit margin calculated?

Profit margin = ((selling price − cost price) ÷ selling price) × 100. It expresses profit as a percentage of revenue, not cost.

What is the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. Markup is profit as a percentage of the cost price. The two numbers are different for the same sale.

How do I find the selling price for a target margin?

Selling price = cost price ÷ (1 − target margin as a decimal). For example, a ₹600 cost with a 40% target margin needs a selling price of ₹600 ÷ 0.6 = ₹1,000.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted or logged.
