Frequently asked questions

How is markup calculated?

Markup is profit expressed as a percentage of the cost price: selling price = cost price × (1 + markup% ÷ 100).

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is profit as a percentage of cost. Margin is profit as a percentage of selling price. A 40% markup is not the same as a 40% margin — this calculator shows both.

How do I convert a markup percentage to a margin percentage?

Margin % = markup ÷ (100 + markup) × 100. For example, a 40% markup equals roughly a 28.6% margin.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted or logged.
