Frequently asked questions

How is the break-even point calculated?

Break-even units = fixed costs ÷ (selling price per unit − variable cost per unit). The denominator is called the contribution margin.

What is the contribution margin?

It's the amount each unit sold contributes toward covering fixed costs, after variable costs: selling price − variable cost per unit.

What is break-even revenue?

It's the total sales value at the break-even point: break-even units × selling price per unit.

What happens if the selling price is below the variable cost?

The contribution margin is negative, so break-even is never reached no matter how many units are sold — the calculator flags this case.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted or logged.
