Frequently asked questions
What income tax slabs does this use?
For FY 2025-26, the new regime uses ₹0-4L nil, 5% up to ₹8L, 10% up to ₹12L, 15% up to ₹16L, 20% up to ₹20L, 25% up to ₹24L, and 30% above that. The old regime uses ₹0-2.5L nil, 5% up to ₹5L, 20% up to ₹10L, and 30% above that.
What standard deduction and rebate are applied?
A standard deduction of ₹75,000 is applied under the new regime and ₹50,000 under the old regime. Under Section 87A, tax is reduced to zero if taxable income is up to ₹12,00,000 (new regime) or ₹5,00,000 (old regime) — this calculator applies a full rebate at those thresholds without factoring in marginal relief just above them.
Does this account for senior citizen slabs or surcharge?
No, this uses the general slabs for individuals below 60 and doesn't include surcharge, which applies to very high incomes above ₹50 lakh. Only the 4% health & education cess is added.
Which deductions count under the old regime?
Common ones include Section 80C (up to ₹1.5L for PPF, ELSS, life insurance, etc.), 80D (health insurance premium), HRA exemption, and home loan interest — enter their combined total in the deductions field.
Is my income data sent to a server?
